Epic game with small quirks/bugs
Got this game a few days ago and just finished it. Some of the complaints in the other reviews are valid, such as the bs starting health reduction after every fight, the annoying ads that pop up sometimes between screens, and the weak storyline. Other complaints, however, are simply unfounded: this game is not at all "p2w" - I never bought any IAPs, and, quite frankly, I did not at any point feel compelled to make purchases to progress. The game is also not "too difficult" or "unfair", although it might seem that way sometimes (that golden sphinx fight, oh my god...). Every seemingly insurmountable encounter has at least one winning strategy, and finally finding that strategy after much planning and experimenting is one of the most rewarding experiences this game offers. On top of that, this game features great artwork, an innovative real time card battle system, great card variety, and an in-depth, surprisingly balanced roster of card effects (armor, healing-over-time, stun, etc.). These features far outweigh the bugs and other negative aspects of the game, at least in my mind.
Im sitting here after an intense boss fight in the void, and not only did the game crash during the final cutscene, but I am now unable to manage the equipment of my tavern-hired heroes. You know what, though? I aint even mad. Thats how good this game is.
Tip #1: Dont bloat your character decks with useless cards. In many (if not most) cases, one card per deck is enough.
Tip #2: Buy Aegolius with your starting gems. Just trust me.
Tip #3: Yes, you can revive your characters with gems, but doing so will rarely lead to victory. Just save your gems, retreat gracefully, and head back to the drawing board.
Tip #4: Pay attention to new enemy card effects and cast times. This can really help you plan your strategy if you dont beat the level the first time.
Tip #5: Coins are scarce, so only research the cards you need, such as one that gives you a volley stun.
